Parts & Accessories Definitions
Becoming familiar with the terms (or nomenclature) used to describe SENCO parts is an excellent way to build your service skills. This list will help you recognize some key parts by name, and identifies some basic detail about the function of the parts.

  • Main Body: Also known as the casting, the main body is the largest part of most tools. It forms the main air chamber, the handle of the tool, finely honed surfaces for parts to seal against, and threaded holes for mounting other key parts.
  • Magazine: The part of the tool into which the fasteners are loaded. Several parts team up to comprise a magazine assembly.
  • Feeder Shoe: The part of the magazine which the operator lines up behind the fasteners (nails or staples) to push or pull them to the front.
  • Feeder Spring: The spring which pulls (or pushes) the feeder shoe towards the front.
  • Guide Body: Sometimes called the nose, usually featuring a main back plate, front door, and latch, the guide body assembly of parts tightly enclose the fasteners as it drives into the wood.
  • Driver: People call this the plunger, the ram, the striker, and other terms. It’s the hardened metal blade (or rod) that strikes the fastener off the strip and forces it into the wood.
  • Piston: Attached to the top of the driver, pistons are equipped with a ring which allows for compression, much like an automobile piston.
  • Cylinder Sleeve: Houses the driver and piston assembly. Once installed into the main body, the sleeve forms the upper and lower air chambers in a tool.
  • Cap: Provides access into the main body, it’s located at the top of the tool and secured to the main body with screws in most cases. Usually provides a passage for the exhaust blast.
  • Firing Valve: This is the key part which regulates compressed air in or out of the cylinder sleeve. In oiled tools, the firing valve is a circular piston equipped with o-rings. The no-oil tools feature a unique, inflatable diaphram that serves as the firing valve.
  • Piston Stop: The large rubber bushing located at the bottom of the sleeve. The driver and piston assembly slam into this at the end of the downstroke.
  • Remote: These are the triggering parts on the inside of the tool. They regulate compressed air that controls the movement of the firing valve.
  • Trigger: The parts on the outside of the main body used by the operator to activate the tool to drive fasteners.
  • Safety: Also known as the work contacting element, the safety prevents the discharge of fasteners into mid-air.
