316 Stainless Steel

Best Resistance 316 Stainless Steel

For extreme environments. 316 Stainless Steel contains 16% chromium, 10% nickel, and 2% molybdenum. The addition of molybdenum and a higher nickel content increases the corrosion resistance properties of 316 stainless steel. This Fastener is the ultimate choice for highly corrosive environments and works well in all types of woods.

Recommended use: Exposure to extreme corrosive elements (salt air and moisture) and within 5 miles of the coast.

Better Resistance 304 Stainless Steel

For moderate environments. 304 stainless steel contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel among other elements, making it resist most oxidizing acids and rust. An excellent choice for all types of environments and woods including exotic woods, cedar or redwood.

Recommended use: Exposure to wet conditions regularly and more than 5 miles away from a body of water.

Hot Dip Galvanized

Good Resistance Hot Dip Galvanized

Hot Dipped Galvanized nails have one ounce per square foot of zinc coating. The zinc coating on the nail acts as a barrier between the base steel and the elements, slowing the corrosion process. Ideal for preservative-treated wood and most exterior applications.

Recommended use: Exposure to wet conditions regularly and more than 5 miles away from a body of water.

Aluminum Nails

Aluminum Nails

Ideal for use in soft woods, particularly cedar and redwood applications to eliminate staining, bleeding, or streaking. Often used for attaching siding and fencing. Aluminum nails are also recommended when installing aluminum siding. Aluminum nails ARE NOT recommended for use in preservative-treated wood or hardwoods.

Know Your Environment

The environment is the condition in which the fastener will be exposed. Will the fastener be exposed to rain, snow, humidity? Will the fastener be exposed to salt air near a coast line? Both moisture and salt have an adverse effect on steel fasteners.
