Cliff Mentrup brings a wealth of corporate finance, M&A and legal expertise to his role at SENCO. Since joining the Company as General Counsel in 2006, he has taken on increasing responsibility and today oversees a variety of critical areas, including legal, risk management, regulatory compliance, human resources and customer service. He is responsible for drafting and negotiating all of SENCO’s major contracts, managing the Company’s intellectual property in over 40 countries and handling all litigation and risk mitigation matters affecting SENCO.
In his current role, Cliff has aggressively cut administration and overhead costs, managed the company’s risk exposure and helped transform the company’s workforce to be more market-facing.
Previous to SENCO, Cliff served as a Managing Director and as General Counsel to a medical venture capital firm, where he served on the board of directors of several venture capital-backed companies. Cliff began his career as a corporate attorney at Latham & Watkins in Chicago where he worked on many multimillion and multibillion dollar deals, including the sale of a large defense contractor to the Carlyle Group and the sale of Sears’ furniture division.
At Latham and in venture capital, Cliff has helped introduce over a dozen companies to the public markets. His expertise in describing a company’s structure and operations to the financial community and his skill in analyzing and closing all types of transactions have been instrumental in successfully executing both SENCO’s sale in 2009 and its first string of acquisitions, which began in 2011 and continue through today.
Cliff holds a B.S. in economics from Miami University and a J.D. from the University of Virginia. In his spare time, he serves as a court-appointed advocate for foster children in Cincinnati and Hamilton County and is an avid thoroughbred racing fan.
